The story behind the name
Set only 5 minutes away from the center of Argostoli, within a beautiful landscape amidst lush greenery and the pristine sea, you will find the restaurant of Vinaries, a delicious meeting point for the locals and travelers as well.
The area of Vinaries hold its own place in history. It started as a winery and brandy distillery founded in 1854 by E.A.TOUL. The products of the company were multi-awarded, with a vast variety of wines and brandies, such as the local brandy of Kefalonia, aged Mavrodaphne wine, Robola of Kefalonia and fine moscato wines to name a few. The winery/distillery, due to its strategic location, exported and distributed goods with boats and ships throughout the island and Greece as well. Its facilities were extensive, set from the hillside all the way down to the beach, but were destroyed by the Great Kefalonia earthquake in 1953, leaving behind only ruins and abandoned walls.
In 2008, the Raptis family turned Vinaries into the meeting point that it is today, with the restaurant breathing new life into the area. Fresh ingredients, traditional favorites and innovative ideas balance to create a dining experience designed to involve all senses.
